Annually today we celebrate the feast of Naros which is the start of the Coptic New Year (1st of Toot) or the feast of the Martyrs. The Church loves the martyrs and Martyrdom, if we are celebrating the feast of the Martyrs on the 11th of September every year but we are celebrating the Martyrs almost every day. We love the Martyrs; we keep their icons, sanctify their relics and call the Churches on their names. Martyrdom started in the New Testament of the Church starting by St Stephan going on till the year 313 AD (this is an important date we must all remember) in the year 313 AD the great emperor Constantine the great declared the lay of freedom of religion. But with the freedom of religion martyrdom continued and religion terrorism continued till today. The LORD JESUS CHRIST said to HIS disciples “They shall put you out of the synagogues; but the hour is coming that every one who kills you will think to render service to God; Joh 16:2” Martyrs are of the greatest Saints, greater than Monasticism and priesthood, why is that? That is because the LORD JESUS CHRIST says “No one has greater love than this, that one should lay down his life for his friends. Joh 15:13” May the blessings of our fathers the Martyrs be with us all and happy New Year for all.
