Anon asks: Hi everyone! First of all I just wanted to say what a relief that I have found this amazing supporting page! I am not pregnant yet but I have had cholestasis when I was 16. I went into the pill for the first time and 2 weeks later my liver shut down, my eyes and skin was jaundice and and u can all imagine I was itchy all over to the point I would cry. They put it down to I was allergic to oestrogen, I went straight off the pill as the first signs appeared but I was still sick as for multiple weeks after. Finally after 6 or so months my bile acids where back to normal. Now that I am older and wanting to start a family I have been to a obstetrician and she told me all the risks that happen with obstetric cholestasis, she also told me that this the be the hardest thing I will probley do in my life and to mentally prepare myself that it doesnt always end up being a good outcome. She told me it can start from 12 weeks, and I will be closely monitored incase the baby looses oxygen and it will have to come ASAP via c-section as I can easily hemorrhage and the baby will have to come early before 37 week (if I get that far) I was so upset when she was telling me all this I felt so alone as it affects less than 1% of Australian woman. But now that I have found this page I feel as even though it is still high risk I dont feel so alone and I can actually do this! I just need to take it day by Day and push through the sleepless itchy days and Nights!! If anyone has any advice or different remedies to help me prepare and during pregnancy it would be much appreciated x
