Another Bounty Hunter comp complete and true to form some - TopicsExpress

Another Bounty Hunter comp complete and true to form some atrocious weather was served up. No prizes earnt but shit we had some truly epic straylining. Our weekend started on Thursday cruising down from Auckland and throwing the boat in at sandy bay early evening before threading our way through 3 meter swells towards our anchorage for the night. We dropped the pick, loaded up on fresh yellow tail for the morning, had a big cook up and strung our hammocks up for the night. A ridiculously comfortable nights sleep was had and at 5 am we packed the beds away and pulled the pick. With swell rolling over Happy Spot and white water all around we took our time and managed a perfect set, sitting perfectly between two reefs, with waves breaking off to port and 50 metres off our stern. We chucked over the first of our 60 kgs of berley and started chumming, only moments later our first double figure fish inhaled a butterflied yellow tail! This was backed up with the best 4 hour snapper session we have had to date, with almost every bait resulting in a huge hit n miss or a healthy big red. Unfortunately with the forecast changing to 35 knots over night we made the call and safety came first. Missed the evening session we had planned and bashed our way back to the trailer whilst we still could. A couple of jars at Friday prize giving and a hearty feed before setting off to Kennedy bay for the night. A few hours sleep in the back of the truck then on the water again at first light. Saturday again produced the goods but alas not enough for the cash. Weekend tally for our two strayline sessions is as follows: 20 fish over 10 pound 5 fish just on or over 7 kg. More 3-4 kg fish than Ive ever seen before. 4 Mooray eels for Dale. A few sharkings And some spectacular hits from unstoppable brutes. Not to mention more colourful language than you would think you could fit into two days. Photos will be up shortly and I might chuck up a little gopro clip of our pumeling we took coming home on Saturday.
