Another bit from the upcoming book, Nobody in India, Walking the Inner Path. This is from the time i was in Pune at the Osho Ashram just before leaving for Arunachala for the first time: I left Rani just in time for a chicken cutlet burger and small finger chips -French fries- in Prems, an upscale restaurant. The waiter brought the food in record time so that I could get to the ashram for my last White Robe Brotherhood. I arrived too late for one of the few chairs at the back of Buddha Hall and only had my long white cotton shawl to put on the cold marble floor. Osho was in all his awakened glory on the big screen, the beautiful open sided Buddha Hall filled to the brim with white robed disciples, most sitting cross legged or lying down for the two hour discourse. After sitting awhile I managed to lie on my side on the narrow shawl and to stave off the chill night air, pull it partly over my back and head. Drifting in and out of sleep in the cold evening air was really lovely. I came awake during the jokes, the laughter gently pulling me back to my lotus posture. Most nights like this one, at the end of discourse, Osho encourages us to look deep inside to find the Buddha that we are. Then come back and bring this essence into our daily lives. This night he said very strongly—“Don’t leave this life until you find who you really are.” Sitting there before rising to leave, with this beautiful reminder, that is so much like my own awakening experience, suffusing my consciousness, I felt so very quiet, peaceful, soft, free, contented. White robes silently, gracefully, passing an inch from my form like the wings of a flock of white doves. Outside, I stood enraptured by the swan in the little pond, bright white against the dark night water. The almost heart-breaking beauty of the swan, trees, little water falls, filled me with the beauty of existence, I was blissful. Realizing I was leaving this physically lovely spiritual oasis made everything even more vivid.
