Another great question from a client: Absolutely love this service. I am much happier spending $15 to have my horse checked before shoving de-wormer down his throat! Last check (early October) he had 250 eggs/gram of strongyles and I de-wormed with QuestPlus on Oct 10. Re-checked Oct 27, no worms! Just checked and he has 150 eggs/gram of strongyles again. It says no wormer needed if under 200 eggs per gram, so should I just wait until his next check in a few months and see where we stand? How often do you suggest checking? Quarterly? Bi-monthly? Answer: We generally recommend rechecking every 3 month for horses that are negative (no eggs found on counting chamber) or low shedders (less than 200 strongyle eggs/gm). Since your horse, has had 2 positive tests we sometimes recommend rechecking in 2 months rather than waiting the full 3 months. Horsemen’s Laboratory has found that most horses with this low of a count normally remain low, but rechecking at 2 months just gives us a little added protection. To purchase a kit: horsemenslab
