Another one by Jiuseppe William Copeland. I feel blessed this man has decided to share his words. Thank you sir. Every day, 5 times, they pray As the desert fox finds shelter for the blistering day to come, When my shadow stretches 1000 yard across the sands of this alien landscape As the tower guards focus their attentions toward MREs for lunch again The moment the crimson twilight silhouettes the seagulls gliding on the thermal winds And as the stars dance across the mirrored ripples of the Euphrates Though burlap sacks blind them and duct tape bind their hands and feet. They turn to the west to project ancient words of beauty and peace Their song Reverberates down the coils of razor wire affecting the mind The way perfectly tuned guitar strings fill your soul with blurred emotion. There lying on the shaded side of a garbage heap 500 yards down range, only the slight gleam of reflected sun gives the enemies position away then I see the darkened outline of a rifle barrel and the red and white striped rag over his head and shoulders. I take aim and fire The thunderous crack steels the attention of all, but those in prayer The birds lift up in unison from the water, as if brushed away by the hand of god and A wild mangy dog with cracked and bleeding sun burnt hide, Pauses under the shade of a palm tree, after appearing from the heat haze as though it were a soul collecting beast from hell returning to its favorite hunting ground. An emperor scorpion, big and black, races across my left arm in pursuit of its own target The led flies true, ripping through the nothing, 100 yards, it can’t be stopped, 200 yards, a blur of motion and sound surround me, A tortuous wind drives tiny knives across the back of my sun beaten neck 300 yards, Commands crackle over the radio as static confusion, who cares, it’s too late 400 yards, a signal drop of sweat is suspended in time an inch below the left lens of my Oakley’s Just as another kisses the edge of the dust covered stock of my weapon on its way to scorched earth 499 yards, If only for this moment the earth is still, my mind calm, my guilt justified. The angel of death awaits the red mist.
