Another person I want to pay tribute to before I die is Rob Harrison. Rob and I were at law school together in Christchurch. We distinguished ourselves both by being lazy students and in our dress. Rob wore army camouflage gear and I always wore boilersuits. After admission to the bar, Rob went to Timaru and took over the criminal cases of a firm that had grown tired of crime. Rob defended the very first man ever prosecuted for killing a baby in-utero. It was a brave move. Later, Rob defended Peter Ellis in the famous Christchurch creche case. I was alongside Rob then and saw how it withered him. Later, when my father died I told Rob how I had tried to get alongside my dad and get him to reveal to me the wisdom of his lifes journey. How, I got no wisdom from my dad. Rob said, What right did you have to expect that your dad would have any ancient wisdom or truths to give you? I was rocked by that answer but, now I understand that love is the only tangible thing we can pass on in our lives. Thank you Rob for teaching me that!
