Another photo of the beautiful Aliha (Aurangzzebs maternal grand dam). Pictured here with Emma Maxwell at the 1994 UK International at Towerlands. I love this piece of Alihas breeding from an article I read: Aliha was foaled in 1977 and bred by Emma’s parents, the late Major Pat and Joanna Maxwell. She was out of the straight Egyptian mare AK Atallah who had been imported by them from Jarell McCracken’s Bentwood Farms, USA, as a yearling. Her bloodlines were considered to be the finest being by Ansata Ibn Halima (Nazeer x Halima) and out of Al Nahr Mon Ami, a daughter of the famous stallion Ibn Moniet El Nefous and the Babson mare Bint Fada. Indeed, her lines were so valuable that the Maxwell’s choice of a non-straight Egyptian stallion for her must have raised many an eyebrow! At the time, straight Egyptians were relatively rare and commanded high prices, hence AK Atallah had cost £30,000. In contrast Aliha’s sire the pure Crabbet Indian Silver, by Indian Magic (Raktha x Indian Crown) and out of Dalika (Dargee x Silver Gilt) had cost £2,000 as a colt foal from the Crabbet dispersal sale in 1971. Although this may have been an unfashionable mating using a Crabbet stallion on a straight Egyptian mare, it turned out to one of pure genius!
