Another successful recovery today!!! I received a call yesterday from Caitlin Burke who had gone swimming in Long Beach Island and after getting knocked down in the surf by a rough wave realized that she had just lost her engagement ring! Since she lost it with the tide almost all the way out I informed her that we would have to wait until todays outgoing tide to have the best chances of recovering the ring. After her sleepless night we met at her house on the beach around 10am and went down to the beach where she showed me where she had been swimming. I chose the Whites Dual field Pi for the job since the water was still choppy and most of my work would be in the water and I didnt want to chance missing the rings signal to false signals from the moving water on the detectors search coil. Following the tide out I noticed the surf had a lot of cuts and troughs where the ring could have gotten caught up so I hunted those in knee deep with the waves breaking on me digging pieces of dune fence wire and other trash items and after 3 hours until finally her ring was in the scoop! As I approached her family sitting on the beach I didnt tell them I found it yet and took up an offer from her father for a bottle water or beer and I responded .You know what Ill have that beer and asked Caitlin if this belonged to her? showing her the ring in my scoop. She fell into tears and was speechless catching her breath as the rest of the family jumped and cheered from their beach chairs with amazement and relief. What a great feeling it was to be able to hand her the ring back and see the relief from the heartache she had been suffering from since the loss the day before which was also the first day of her weeks vacation. Now she can relax,enjoy the rest of her vacation. Have a great day!
