Another super day of athletics at the Leinster Even age, Novice & Masters Cross Country Championships - held in the beautiful setting of Avondale House in Wicklow. Eimear Doyle began the day for Boyne A.C. with a great run in the u10 non championship race. Running out of age in the girls u12 2,000m was Caer NiGhibne, who gave a fantastic performance to finish in 13th place, and 3rd for the county. Up next was Eva Cummins, also running out of age in the girls u16 4,000m race, she battled well closing a large gap to finish 13th overall, just missing out on a medal and was 1st home for the county. Again running out of age in the boys u16 4,000m, Rurcan OGibne ran a solid race to finish in 21st place and 2nd in the county. The last juvenile race of the day was the u18 boys, which saw the two older OGibne brothers battle it out over the tough 6,000m distance - Oisin, out of age, held strong to the leading pack and finished in a fine 12th place overall, and 1st in for Louth, while Cormac also ran a super race, finishing in 3rd place for his county. Finally, the Master Womens race saw Rebecca Carolan and Breda Devine take to the 4,000m course, contesting well in a tough group of 67 runners. Rebecca finished in 22nd place overall, and 3rd in for Louth, and along with Mary Leech, Yasmin Canning and Ciara OReilly (Drogheda & District A.C.) were placed 4th county team, just missing out on qualification for the national championships. Breda too ran a great race, happy with her time of 17.42, proving that her hard work is certainly paying off.
