Answer to this mornings RMS lifestyle quiz was C ! Slight weight gain over a holiday weekend is common, even with successful long term weight loss maintainers. It should not usually be addressed with drastic measures, in most cases. An exception may be if there is a serious medical issue which may be more related to salt/blood pressure, heart failure, water related weight gain, etc. and should be closely medically monitored. Sticking to a lifestyle pattern that has been successful, but with some temporary moderate, but meaningful, tweaks - particularly lowering calorie dense carbohydrates (both refined and even much unrefined carbs since, lets face it, Pepperidge Farm 100% whole wheat bread and the like are not really weight-loss friendly foods) like breads, cereals and crackers and care over total fat intake (oils, dressings, even a bit more care over nuts/seeds temporarily and certainly making sure protein sources are fatty, etc.). I usually try to maintain my protein & fiber intake and try to have enough carbs (but not too much) to prevent forcing my body to burn protein for energy. In a couple weeks I should be back to baseline (which is really an average that fluctuates a up-and-down, but is an average that is a couple pounds less than where I am this morning) while still maintaining muscle mass and strength. That is what works for me and yes, I just said that a couple pounds over a long holiday weekend may take me a couple weeks to shave off, doing it the right (RMS) way. Thats what motivates me not to leave my center of lifestyle gravity too often!
