Anti-vaxers are a pet peeve for me, I just dont get it, they are putting everyone in danger. I dont know how they can keep that stand with all the science against them. Lovely game night discussion at our new apartment communities social event last night for me, the vocally anti-vaxer to hear. Worse, my son who is well aware of his vaccine free state getting physically agitated and nervous over the very open and loud discussion. When he looked at me and gave that uncomfortable smile, I knew I had to say something.....when do I not, right? I simply joined the small group and introduced myself as One of those crazy Anti-vaxers. Funny enough, they were put off, quieted up and did not really want to talk any more, and even apologized for the comments. I said, relax, I have been in this debate for 20 years and wonder every day, in each discussion, if what I am doing is right, or if my stance is wrong. So, I appreciate the opposing debate and opportunity to learn, I dont want to miss anything. Silence. Then I asked them, have you ever wondered or considered the possibility that your pro-vaccine position could be wrong? The answer...NO They told me they believed they were educated on the subject, that they have done research and that is why they are consequently pro-vaccine. How can one make an informed decision about a topic like this without ever considering the other side might be right, or you may be wrong? I didnt get it and decided to look into what that is all about. I learned it is the very definition of dogma, and diametrically opposed to science. I was really hoping that all the science they knew about was something I have yet to see, read, or process.......if it was, they definitely were not sharing!
