Antique PNP, PSWDO urged to closely address violence against women, children By Vicente W. Villavert SAN JOSE, Antique, March 6 (PIA6) - - The Philippine National Police and the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) in Antique were urged to work closely in addressing violence committed against women and children. Retired Col. Ma. Cecilia R.Detablan said that there must be strengthening of awareness for the police and PSWDO personnel on women’s rights as specified in RA 9262 that urged the women to break their silence and should report their cases to authorities. Detablan who was the former regional chief of the Women and Children Protection Desk of the PNP Region 6, said during the recent Dialogue on Pillars of Justice System that with the RA 9262 in place, the incidence of domestic incidence will be properly addressed in implementing protective and rehabilitative programs for the abused women and children. The number of abused women in the area was not readily made available during the dialogue, but Detablan said that the regional crime statistics showed that the highest number of crimes committed against women is violation of Republic Act 9262 otherwise known as the Anti- Violence Against Women and Children Act. After serving the PNP, she now heads an NGO called ATIPAN or Anti-Trafficking In Persons Advocates’ Network to serve as network of individuals, groups and organizations that are committed to the prevention, protection and rehabilitation of Anti-Trafficking in Persons survivors. The Dialogue on the Pillars of Justice System was conducted by the Provincial Government through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office attended by some 80 Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officers, Police officers assigned at the various women and children’s desk, information officers, social workers, and representatives from government agencies. The other resource persons during the dialogue included Prosecutor Paul Melvin dela Cruz of the Department of Justice; Social Officer IV Susan Mogato of DSWD 6; SPO1 Cherryl Sapinosa, Head of the Antique Provincial Police Office Provincial Women and Children’s Desk and PSWDO Lazaro G.
