Anxiety & Panic Attacks - Hypnotherapy Sessions “Worrying is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do but it gets you nowhere” It can be so difficult for you when you suffer from anxiety, to actually ask for help and you may feel isolated and hopeless. You may not be able to tell anyone how bad you really feel on a daily basis and find yourself just surviving rather than living your life. For you it seems like a curse which holds you back from living a normal life and it is very often the case that you don’t even know why you are anxious to start with. Often a trip to the doctor will see you being given a course of anti-depressants which can take some time to work, may have side effects and, a bit like pain killers, just mask the real problem What is anxiety? Anxiety is basically a fear of the future – the fear that something is out there that doesn’t support you or may even cause you harm. The symptoms of anxiety are part of the body’s natural response which is an emotional and physical response to a real or perceived threat. In other words, it is your own mind creating the symptoms. It goes back to the days when we lived in caves and had to hunt for food and our only lines of defence when presented with danger where to fight or to run away. We now have many more choices of how to deal with threats which are more appropriate. And when you think about it – the future has not happened yet so its totally possible to have the symptoms of a fear of something that’s not happened yet subside when the real cause is found How can hypnotherapy help with anxiety? Using Hypnotherapy for anxiety states can be very effective and over time stress can be reduced and negative emotions released to enable you to feel calmer and more in control than ever before. Past traumas can be dealt with and you can learn self help techniques to help relieve your symptoms permanently What your subconscious mind is doing is simply causing you to act in a way in order to protect yourself in a less than appropriate way. Hypnosis for anxiety is a form of therapy that works on the inside level where the problems come from. On some level some part of your brain knows what the anxiety is a response to. Hypnosis bypasses all the conscious material that clouds our judgments and helps pinpoint what is causing the problems. Panic Attacks When we use hypnotherapy for anxiety disorders, a lot of anxiety can be accompanied by panic disorder. This is marked by recurrent, spontaneous panic attacks. A panic attack is an intense period of fear or discomfort. During the attack, a person may experience the following symptoms: racing heartbeat difficulty breathing, feeling as though you ‘can’t get enough air’ terror that is almost paralysing dizziness, light-headedness or nausea trembling, sweating, shaking choking, chest pains hot flushes, or sudden chills tingling in fingers or toes (‘pins and needles’) fear that you’re going to go crazy or are about to die You probably recognise this as the classic ‘fight or flight’ response that human beings experience when we are in a situation of danger. But during a panic attack, these symptoms seem to arise from out of nowhere. They occur in seemingly harmless situations – they can even happen while you are asleep.
