Any chance of reigning in U.S. military imperium and the apparatus of the national security state ceased when shots rang out in Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963. Under the best conditions governments operate by defacto criminality, whereby certain privileged elements are given carte blanche to commit robbery and murder -- but devoid of oversight and left to create fictive, self-serving narratives, government officials are freed to engage in outright gangsterism. Government that are closed to constant and thorough scrutiny and accountability equals Murder Inc. -- a secretive, insular milieu of plotters and killers who will determine the course of a nations fate. The assassination of the 1960s, the perpetual wars of empire (covert and overt), the assaults on 1960s dissidents and the seeding of the mass media with CIA disinformation agents, who framed of false narratives in regard to the events of the era by COINTELPRO operatives, sealed the fate of the U.S. long ago. The process was set in motion well before the grim events in Dallas, a half century ago, but, in the aftermath, history will reveal in retrospect, there would be no turning back from the abyss after (unelected and unaccountable) elements within the U.S. government would be allowed to get away with an outright coup detat by the murder the nations chief executive.
