Any fire arms enthusiast remembers that not long ago, just about the only ammunition you could find was 12 gauge. Today, center fire is not all that hard. Much more pricey than it was before it returned to the shelves, but still available. Rimfire and especially .22 long rifle is another story. It is next to impossible to find on the shelves. You can order it online and pay a fortune, but other than that you have just about no options. Conspiracy theory about why this is have been hot and heavy. Usually they wind up with some government plot and bla bla. Manufacturers have a different and perhaps more alarming story. Manufacturers claim they are running shifts around the clock producing ammunition faster than ever before, producing more ammunition than every before, but they have not been able to keep up with the increased demand. They are just now getting on top of center fire and have no idea when they will get caught up on rim fire. Why is it that during the entire history of the United States that ammunition demand has never in any previous year been higher? In other news, my wife has given me permission to buy my boys first .22 rifle for his birthday this November. dailycaller/2014/08/27/so-really-where-is-the-22-rimfire-ammo/
