Any man can win when things go his way. Its the man who overcomes adversity that is the true champion. Jack Ewing Day +108 If weve learned nothing else over the past few months, weve definitely learned that in the land of BMTs, every day brings something different. As you all know, Alan has been struggling with waking up and staying alert. For the past month or so, he has shown changes in his mental status. This is thought to be from either TMA, pain medications, or possibly an infection not detected in the blood. At the moment, we are not sure of the cause. He had another MRI a couple of nights ago, and thankfully, the results were normal. We continue to decrease the pain medications as they can also affect mental status. Over the past 24 hours, Alan has really started to come through again...still sleepy, but definitely an improvement. Yesterday Alan had another lower GI scope to help determine if the bleeding he continues to have is from GVHD, TMA or infection. Previously, the GVHD of the gut was categorized as a 2 and they were concerned it had progressed. We were happily surprised to find out it is now barely a 1. Also, they saw no indication of TMA in the gut. They will continue to analyze the tissue further and also check for infection, but at this point they believe the bleeding is just due to a slow healing process from his first bout with GVHD. So for now we watch and wait. We are happy to finally receive some good news and hope to be able to continue on the path of recovery.
