Anybody looking for a good Netflix Documentary? Even if youre not, its a brilliant way to learn if you dont read books. Anyway, here the ones Ive watched lately in no particular order: Frontline: A Death in St. Augustine A fascinating crime documentary about a woman who died under suspicious circumstances and her familys search for the truth. The Dark Matter of Love An extremely realistic look at the challenges of adoption, specifically international adoption. This gave me a whole new respect for my Intl adoption homies, who go through all the unique struggles adoptive families face PLUS a language barrier. So Much So Fast ( language) Documentarians track several years of a man diagnosed with ALS. Deeply moving, especially poignant as it shows his familys varied reactions to the disease. Crime After Crime (Not suitable for all audiences due to lengthy discussions of abuse) The story of a battered woman who received a very heavy sentence for murder in California and two attorneys fight with the justice system to have them consider her mitigating circumstances. Shunned A look into the life of the Amish and those who end up rejecting the culture. My living room looked like the trail of tears as I cried like an idiot over pretty much everyone in the documentary. Survive and Advance ALL OF THE ESPN 30-for-30 docs are good. I watch every one that comes on NF so I can discuss in detail with my brother. (Some of the notables: The Best that Never Was, Press Pause, UNGUARDED=Many, many tears). The best story is that of a certain NC State championship team and their special coach, Jim Valvano. If you love basketball and you cried at Hoosiers, meet your new favorite film. FAVORITE FAVORITE FAVORITE!!!! Beyond the Gates of Splendor A docu version of Through Gates of Splendor, the most inspiring missionary story youve probably never heard. Heroic choice after heroic choice from humble Christians bring Gospel breakthrough. YOU GUYS. WATCH IT. Ok, fine. And Katy Perry. I never cared for her music until I watched this. Honestly I thought she was not a strong love singer. But seeing her as a human with all of her vulnerabilities exposed made me consider how I look at celebrities. Also offers an interesting perspective as Perrys roots in Christian music and her exit from not just singing about Jesus but also from Christianity to spirituality are discussed. Have you watched any documentaries that taught you something or told a powerful story?
