Anyone have a wi-fi smart thermostat in their home? Im looking into them, and the most popular seems to be the Nest, although Im reading some negative reviews regarding some technical problems with them. It seems the nice thing is that the Nest 2nd generation has a smart learning feature, where it tracks the weather, outside temp, inside temp, motion, all in an effort to learn your schedule, and the best times to heat/cool. It also has an apple & android app to be able to control multiple aspects of the HVAC system, even when you are away from home. The negative reviews Ive read have to do with the aux heat coming on too often for heat pump systems, not having a lot of flexibility to manually program the unit, and an algorithm glitch where the A/C and the heat can run at the same time, causing the HVAC system to freeze up. Alternatively, the Ecobee 3 just came out, and while it doesnt have the smart learning feature as the nest, it allows you to place up to 32 temp/motion sensors throughout your house, and also has an apple & android app. I believe there is a lot more latitude and flexibility in regards to the manual programming with the Ecobee 3. That is of course if you know what you are doing. Just curious if anyone out there has any recommendations or have had any issues.
