Anyone want to hear a Russ rant? No? Well too bad, here it comes........ To all those miserable gits moaning about the Ice Bucket Challenge I say this in answer to your whinges.... -- Whinge 1> “You can donate to charity without pouring water on your head” – that’s right you can. You can also donate without running a marathon, skydiving, dieting or any other activity. The idea of these activities is to raise awareness as well as funds which is difficult for charities in the current climate where they are competing for everyone’s donations. This has been a resounding success. -- Whinge 2> “People in Africa need water” – yes they do, desperately, but not the water from our taps. It would be logistically impossible to transport water to Africa, thereby making this argument invalid. Furthermore, Africa is surrounded by water, the problem is purifying it treating it, education and corruption - not simply getting it there. -- Whinge 3> “Other Charities are suffering because of this” – no. they are absolutely not. Many, many charities other than ALS have seen an increase in donations and awareness – millions of people have heard the name of other charities due to this - how is that a bad thing? -- People, our world is full of hatred, war, and death at the moment – possibly more than in many people’s lifetime What is wrong with a bit of respite from what can be a thoroughly depressing time? If you dont like it, fine, dont do it, but climb down from your moral high horse and chill out – it’s just a bit of fun - in a good cause.. Rant over.
