Anyone who champions and exalts professional athletes for sacrificing by, say, taking a salary of $14 million a season instead of $20 million a season really needs to go see a shrink. I love watching and following and writing about sports...but the amount of money and ego that has absolutely drenched and distorted every aspect of it truly disgusts me as an occasionally rational and frequently compassionate human being. You want sacrifice or honor or selflessness...? Go talk to a firefighter. Or a nurse.
