Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. (1Jn 4:8) God is love- this is one of the best know verses in Bible. There are two things to point out regarding this verse: 1st. Love finds it origin in God, it is not that love exists apart from God and He, Himself, engages in exhibiting love. The verse does not state "God loves,"- it states "God IS love." 2nd, (and the most misunderstood)- Since God is the origin of love, He has absolute authority over love and defines love according to His perfect divine nature. Love can not be separated from the fullness of God, He is inseparable and can not deny Himself. Therefore if you seek to engage in activities and attitudes which God has called Sin, you can not be engaging in love. If you do not love the way God says you are to love, you are not loving.
