Anyone who thinks that the Civil Rights movement is something of the past unfortunately has alot of eye opening to do. When we say we dont see color or that we believe that blacks and whites are equal in society were turning a blind eye to the issues at hand. In a utopian and ideal society that would be the case, and god do i wish it were the reality. However, in the world we live in, blacks are treated VERY differently than whites...white privilege, while disgusting and unjust, is still very much a problem, and disparity between minorities and whites is astounding. We need to start owning up to the fact that we dont live in the peace and equality that much of the media would have us believe that we do. Weve come a long way since the days of apartheid and Jim Crow, but I think we still have alot of work to do. Lets keep the dreams of Mandela and King alive. We cant solve a problem until we admit that there IS one. And as a sidenote, the Ferguson case, as well as every other circumstance like it, IS a race issue. To say otherwise is not only ignorant but negligent. Thanks for taking the time to let me spew out my ideas. This is a subject im passionate about.
