Anytime an incision from a surgery swells, it is best to get it - TopicsExpress

Anytime an incision from a surgery swells, it is best to get it checked out. Common causes of incisional swelling are: 1. Suture reaction: It is a foreign material that the body may react to. Some animals react worse than others. 2. Licking at incision by the patient or their friends. 3. Bruising or bumping the incision, or stretching healing tissue may cause a bit of oozing or bleeding. 4.Infection of surgery from the inside or outside. Some surgeries may become infected and need antibiotic treatment. 5. Hernia: The underlying muscle sutures have given out due to reaction from the body or getting stretched from activity. Fluid or intestinal contents are now under the skin. Most mild seromas will flatten out and resorb in a week or two.
