Anyway, Im not so thrilled about the stadium in Uyo. I think we should talk about it in two to four years time. Thats when well know its an investment thats worth it or thats got a sound concept. Na Naija we dey na. Heard theyve an agreement with Julius Berger on maintenance. Same company that had the Abuja National Stadium years back, yet.... Wetin end am? Ive worked in Uyo. Its a quiet, serene place. How the managers of the edifice will be able to generate traffic and pit it to good use is what Im scared about. Ive heard of some lofty ideas of bringing the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Ajax, and all to Uyo, but youll need serious money for that kind of moves, and theres no assurance that the next governor will be as magnanimous as Akpabio in shelling out money. It also remains to be seen how thet can bring the private sector into the deals. No disrespect to the city of Uyo, but it presently lacks the kind charisma o. Lol Man U and Portsmouth, Brazil have all played in the Abuja Edifice before, yet..... Moreso, can you bring in those big sides year in year out? There are some stadia in Asia that are guaranteed of hosting Arsenal and Man u every year, same in the USA. This is where professionals are needed. To see this fine stadium rot will break my heart. Like a friend of mine Bosun puts it when we discussed this issue: The Stadium alone wont attract all those things you have enumeraed. Security, Purchasing power, Per capital income, employment (all have a role to play). If things like these are not settled. We will always go around in circles Bosun nailed it!
