Apia - Auckland - Australia Route Monopoly Whilst I love flying Air New Zealand and sometimes Virgin on this route the Samoa traveling public (locals and tourists) are being disadvantaged at the absence of a real competitor. With AirNZ stake of 25.9% in Virgin (the maximum allowable by the Australian Foreign Investment Review Board) places AirNZ as the biggest shareholder in VA. It means Samoa as a destination to its markets in NZ and Australia the sector is being monopolised by the AirNZ/VA alliance and there is little control for fair pricing. Both airlines whilst operating different booking systems are charging exactly the same fares. There is no competition which means the traveling public loses out. This needs to be fixed and sorted, and a huge opportunity for a real competitor airline to step in.
