Apostles and Pastors have to be careful not to be lifted up in pride. Apostolic leaders have to walk in humility, and remember that they are servants. Don’t allow PRIDE to sneak in. Pride is destructive, and it will destroy your SHIP. Pride (Leviathan) has SHIPWRECKED many ministries. Shipwreck means to RUIN or FAIL. 1 Timothy 1:19 Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made SHIPWRECK: Leviathan and Shipwreck........................................................................... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Psalm 104:26 There go the SHIPS: there is that LEVIATHAN, whom thou hast made to play therein. LEVIATHAN in scripture is a large sea serpent, a sea monster, or a dragon. Leviathan is a symbol of PRIDE and REBELLION. The most extensive reference to Leviathan in scripture is found in Job 41. God responds to Job by asking him a series of questions about Leviathan, and then God describes him in detail. Job 41:1 Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down? Job 41:34 He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride. Leviathan is in the sea. The sea in scripture represents the nations. SHIPS can be a picture of MINISTRIES called to minister to the nations. Leviathan (pride) is attracted to APOSTOLIC MINISTRIES. Apostles (secular) were originally used by the Greeks to lead naval expeditions. Notice the etymology of the word apostle. The word apostolos was originally a secular term used by the Greeks and the Romans todescribe special envoys sent out to establish the dominion of the empire. These envoys weresent to certain territories and charged to subdue, conquer, convert, instruct, train and establishthe new subjects in the culture of the empire. The concept of apostleship revolves around the concept of being “sent”. Apostles were “sentwith the full power and authority of the empire”. The apostle usually led a naval expedition, cargo, or fleet of ships, sent out (apostello) with aspecial objection and mission. The word apostle as a noun comes from the Greek wordapostolos, which literally means “one sent forth”. It is first found in maritime language, referringto a cargo ship or fleet being sent out. Early usage of this term carried the two-fold sense of anexpress commission and being sent overseas. (Barney Coombs) Apostles and Pastors have to be careful not to be lifted up in pride.
