Apparently, glitchbook has faced again and I lost a bunch of people. Heres how to know if it was me and not glitchbook: 1) Did you do appearance-shaming or fat-shaming? Did you mock someones appearance? Look, if were the good guys, we have to act like it. That means we dont attack personalities, we discuss issues. Thats because not everyone has a personality, but everyone has issues. Attack the lack of logic in the idea, not the intelligence of the person. When you attack the person, youre admitting youve run out of arguments. 2) Did you say something REALLY stupid about guns, the president, or liberals in general? Did you fail to do your research. I have lost loved ones to guns, I respect the president, and I am a liberal. If you have an intelligent, well-researched insight, no problem. If its a knee-jerk, Fox Noise talking point, Im not interested. 3) Did you hijack a thread? Did you get into a fight with someone else and it devolved to name calling? Living room rules apply. 4) Did you assume you have the right to school me on an issue? If you have genuine expertise, say so. Ill listen. Ill be interested in your experience and your insights. Ill learn something. But if all you have is your own opinion, or one youve inherited from someone with an agenda -- ie. Fox Noise -- dont hit post. Schooling someone is an arrogant and patronizing position because it assumes they havent done their research, havent thought about the issue. Over here, 90% of what I do is research. Most of the time, if I say something its because a) Ive spent some time googling it, and b) Ive spent some time thinking about it. Or c) I have personal experience. So if youre going to school me on the second amendment, LGBT issues, or something Ive lived through, bring a box of band-aids -- youll need them. Ohell, bring a paramedic. I might be cranky. 5) Be a fanatic. I have no patience for fanatics. Even when a fanatic is on the right side of the issue, he or she is still an asshole. Okay?
