Apparently the Ellen Degeneres Show is asking viewers to post - TopicsExpress

Apparently the Ellen Degeneres Show is asking viewers to post their bad sunburn photos and they are calling them funny. Please if you can post your dislike for these photos. We, melanoma survivors and people currently battling melanoma, would greatly appreciate your support in this matter. So many people have died from malignant melanoma whether it be due to outdoor sunburns in the past or from using tanning beds and booths. As a 4 year melanoma survivor, I am appalled that a show would find these entertaining. A person’s risk for melanoma doubles if they had more than 5 sunburns. One or more severe sunburns in childhood or adolescence doubles a person’s chance of developing melanoma later in life. Melanoma is not funny. The show should educate people on melanoma. Instead they are minimizing the seriousness of melanoma and being disrespectful to malignant melanoma survivors, people battling melanoma, and all who lost their lives to melanoma. I was lucky with my two melanomas, but my grandfather was not. Here are some sobering facts regarding melanoma. One person dies of melanoma every 57 minutes. 1 in 50 men and women will be diagnosed with melanoma during their lifetime. About 86 percent of melanomas can be attributed to exposure to ultraviolet UV radiation from the sun. Prevention such as using sunscreen, shade, and sun protective clothing along with early detection are important to survive or prevent malignant melanoma. Thank you for your help and support! photos.ellen.warnerbros/galleries/bad_sunburn_photos
