Apparently there was an incident at a Little League game between Clovis and Portales teams that involved a racist comment. There is an old saying that says there is no crying in baseball. There should be no racism either. I am proud of the fact that the majority of the teams I coached and coached against in Portales were made up of a mixture of White and Hispanic kids and I dont recall ever having any race problems, at least not on my team. I always felt sorry for Clovis teams and how segregated the town was. We regularly saw Clovis teams that were all White, all Hispanic or all Black. Based on comments I heard, Clovis leagues did not like each other and the town was very divided. Thanks to baseball in Portales, I made some life-long friends named Villanueva, Ortega, Ontiveros, Anaya, Garcia, Molina... to name a few. Indeed there is no room for racism in a Christian society. I must admit though, I probably did shed a tear or two after losing a tough game. I guess I need to work on that no crying in baseball thing.
