Applications for the 2014 West Yorkshire Police Explorer Programme - TopicsExpress

Applications for the 2014 West Yorkshire Police Explorer Programme are available to download from the Force website from Monday 2nd September. Explorers is a young volunteers programme, which aims to provide an overview of 21st century policing, as well as support operational policing across the Force. The programme will run from January - July 2014, and is open to young people aged 16-18 living in West Yorkshire. Around 140 successful Explorers will commit to attending 25 weeks of interactive inputs from various police departments, as well as being given opportunities to volunteer alongside Neighbourhood Policing Teams in the community. Previous Explorers have supported NPTs in activities such as community surveys, environmental visual audits, community events, assisting with problem solving on ASB issues, and Public Order Training. Many have gone on to become Special Constables or Police Volunteers. Simon Phillips, who co-ordinates the Explorer Programme said “The Force’s Explorer Programme is now in its 6th year, and continues to go from strength to strength in identifying the possible police officers of the future. We’re hoping to recruit Explorers who represent West Yorkshire ’s diverse communities, and I would encourage officers and staff to promote the scheme as widely as possible”. The deadline for applications is Thursday 31st October 2013. Please publicise the programme to any young people aged 16-18 who you think would benefit from the programme. Further information and application forms can be downloaded from the external website westyorkshire.police.uk/explorers.
