Appointment of Pondy varsity V-C challenged SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT The appointment of Prof. Chandra Krishnamurthy as Vice-Chancellor of the Pondicherry University has been challenged before the Madras High Court. Justice N. Kirubakaran has ordered notice to the Centre, among others, returnable by October 10. The petitioner, Prof. M. Ramadass of Thattanchavadi, Puducherry, submitted that the order appointing Prof. Chandra Krishnamurthy was issued on December 28 last year. The entire process of selection of the Vice-Chancellor was not merit-based. She had no teaching or administrative experience in any central university. The Vice-Chancellor’s post being the highest and the most respected in any university, the teaching/administrative experience of a candidate should have been the most important parameter in the selection, the petitioner said. The search committee failed to consider the most valuable and well-accepted parameter in the selection of the Vice-Chancellor. The present VC was not qualified for the appointment. The manner in which the appointment was made was improper, he alleged. The petitioner prayed the court to issue a Writ of Quo Warranto to show cause under what authority the VC was holding office.
