Appreciation and Responsibility: 12 Years ago I had a near death experience when I ran into a car going the wrong way on the interstate: youtu.be/vqrK3ac-Ur4?list=UU3bajCvtOosqx8KYAT3rzBA I learned a lot of lessons, but here are the 2 that Im present to daily: 1. We are responsible for everything!!! Almost everyone asked me after the accident if I felt anger towards the man who caused the accident. Answer: No, and he was a retired firefighter who DIED on his way home from his granddaughters wedding!!! Lesson: if you dont accept responsibility for EVERYTHING in your life, youre in for an unhappy and disappointing ride pointing fingers and assigning blame. It was clear to me that even though I was committed to staying in my lane when driving, we have NO CONTROL over the people in the other lanes going the other direction; no control over people or external conditions. When we drive, or do anything for that matter, we are responsible even if something happens to us. 2. Be grateful for everything we have and dont complain about anything we dont! When Im having a tough day and I take the time to remember how lucky I am even in circumstances that seem to suck, everything feels lighter. Ive made a bunch of little baby steps to practice being present instead of living in the past or worrying about the future. I still have bad days like most people and times where I dont control my state of mind, but GRATITUDE will always bring me back. Our lives can be taken from us at ANY TIME! Appreciate every moment.
