Arab News - DNA testing — Filipino moms race against time Filipino women in the Central Region who have been living in violation of residency laws by becoming mothers have only three days to prove their motherhood through DNA tests. Thursday was the last day to undergo DNA testing but the results of these tests will emerge after the Nov. 3 deadline. The Philippine Embassy had urged these women to come forward for DNA testing so they can benefit from concessions under the amnesty and return home with their children. Several of these women ignored the advisory months ago and now find themselves tight on time. The embassy has made special arrangements with the Ministry of Interior to conduct DNA tests for Filipino mothers with their undocumented children. Philippine authorities had originally set July 14 as the last date for the tests. Women who had registered with the embassy but who had originally refused to go through the test for various reasons are now desperately seeking the test. Around 728 mothers had earlier come forward to prove their parenthood. The figure shot up in the last few days but the exact figure remains unknown since Philippine officials have refused to give the latest statistics. Mothers and children who had proven their kinship through DNA at the beginning of the grace period were repatriated in the first week of October. The Philippine Embassy has so far repatriated 263 women with 332 children. Filipino mothers do not have to undergo this procedure in Jeddah.
