Archaeology Collection mirror frame, patent date, June 19, 1866 Here is another interesting artifact discovered in November of 2004 during the Nelson’s Garage excavation along historic Main Street. This mirror frame was unearthed at 621 and 623 Main Street salvage excavation by South Dakota State archaeologists. Based on the Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps of the project area from 1885 to 1915, these lots contained an assortment of wood framed buildings and businesses that included a livery, saloon, restaurant, a dance hall/ theatre, a bordello and a wagon shed. Many of the artifacts unearthed during this project such as this mirror reflects the type of businesses that stood here in the late 1800s.
