Archdiocesan Discernment Group Archdiocese of Cebu August 22, 2013 TO THE ARCHDIOCESAN CLERGY, RELIGIOUS, LAY ORGANIZATIONS/MOVEMENTS, SEMINARIANS AND THE CEBUANO PUBLIC Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Greetings of truth, justice, peace and love! Amidst the growing indignation against political corruption, specifically the misuse and abuse of people’s money (pork barrel funds), we need to reflect on the declaration of the Fourth Diocesan Synod of Cebu: a large number of people “are poor since they are deprived of access to the basic material goods and resources, and they live under social, economic, political structures which have injustice built into them. (Cebu Synod IV, The Servant Church, #4)” Through the initiative of the Archdiocesan Discernment Group (ADG) established by Cebu Archbishop Jose S. Palma, we in the Archdiocese of Cebu join Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle’s call for a thorough investigation of the pork barrel scam, and appropriate punishment for the culprits. We join the search for the best way to use the people’s money, especially for the poor. In solidarity with the people’s yearning for a corruption-free government, as endorsed by Archbishop Jose S. Palma, WE INVITE THE CLERGY, RELIGIOUS MEN AND WOMEN, SEMINARIANS AND FORMANDI, LAY ORGANIZATIONS, FAITH COMMUNITIES and all Cebuanos, to the following activity: Holy Mass for Call to Discernment on Political Corruption at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral on Monday, 26 August 2013 at 8:00 A.M., to be Presided by Cebu Auxiliary Bishop Julito Cortes, D.D. on behalf of Cebu Archbishop Jose S. Palma, D.D. This discernment mass is an opportunity for everyone to get spiritually strengthened and nourished to bring Christ’s wisdom and love especially to the financial aspect of political governance.
