Reflection: It is inevitable, as we approach the end of another liturgical year that we think about the passage of time and what the future holds. For some it may be full of promise, for others it may appear bleak indeed. However, as Christians our view of the future is not one of either naïve optimism or of a dark fatalism. We do not know what the coming year holds for each of us but we do know that if we keep Christ at our side then we will not lose heart whatever befalls us. The Biblical view of the future is one steeped in the hope brought by the resurrection of Jesus and his victory over sin and death. We may not be able to dictate to the world, but we must speak to the world out of our own frame of interpretation.” (Lloyd Best) Lord, we who belong to smaller nations often feel ourselves standing before the great powers of the world and being judged by them. Give us the grace to discover the wisdom and eloquence that you yourself have given us and that no one can resist or contradict. Lord, when we are young we think that we become great through our achievements. Life has taught us the truth of Jesus’ words: it is by endurance that we win our lives
