Are the 1980s calling, and wanting their foreign policy - TopicsExpress

Are the 1980s calling, and wanting their foreign policy back? In the 1980s, I was in the Air Force serving in a squadron with A-10 Warthog tank killer aircraft in Fairbanks, AK. What was their mission? Would they be killing tanks on the Alaskan tundra? Hardly. Our mission was to fight the Soviet Union in Germany. The theory went that the Soviets (Russians) would invade Germany through the Fulda Gap. Our planes would deploy over the North Pole into Norway, and then jump into the fight in Germany. Now I read that the Pentagons new budget cutbacks have the Air Force retiring the A-10s from service. Bad timing. Russian tanks are rolling. Who knows what commitment we will overextend to Ukraine or Crimea or elsewhere. Who knows when well be facing Russian tanks. A-10s would come in handy if we ever do. Heres a couple of pictures that I took from the boompod of a KC-135 tanker of A-10s refueling over Alaska.
