Are vegans more peaceful? I would answer yes, of course with caveats for some in the more reactionary group who are sensitized and focused most of all for animal rights/abuse. Violence can breed violence. I tend to favor those who respond in ways that are more disarming , using campaigns for encouraging creative solutions rather than fights with winners and losers, and a continuation of the dialectic. The extreme power of domination in our society, and its dominant meat industry, cannot answer the opportunity to eat lovingly, without causing suffering in others. Mindfulness, with mindful eating and living are ways of the heart with a natural innocence in living heartfully, and that is not by always arguing with the mind but by adopting loving solutions that are totally non-violent. On another note, I have worked in the food and restaurant industries and can note from anecdotal experience that heavy carnivores seem to be at least more brusque, if not edgy and contentious. I attribute this to the presence of fight or flight hormones like adrenaline being released into their flesh as animals react to their imminent slaughter. This transfers similar energy to humans who eat that flesh. Also, there is a certain luridness to the attraction to blood and gore, whether it is in eating flesh, slowing to look at car accidents, watching horror movies, or being drawn to blood sports and violent video games. We become what we feed upon. To accept violence on our plates requires a certain denial or deadening of our hearts in the process. We close our hearts to compassion and lose our empathy at the same time as we end up physically choking our own arteries on the fat of animals we eat and kill. Violence breeds violence. Nurturing a garden is quite different! Live your love out loud. Vegans save lives daily. Meat eaters do the opposite, killing not just animals but causing collateral human deaths as well. Why would anyone consciously not choose love?
