Are you Feared or are you Respected? I love the movie A Bronx Tale w/ Robert De Niro. In my favorite scene, actor De Niro teaches his son why it is better to be respected & loved than to be feared & to stay away from the Mafia. I often wonder about this by examining community leaders & their followers. There are those that strong-arm their way to get what they want. They use corrupt means to inflict fear and threaten while pushing self-serving ideologies and illegal operations all the while showing signs of community apathy. Hmm? And somehow they are never held accountable. The dichotomy is prevalent in Hawaii. Even on little ol Molokai believe it or not. It is my prayer and hope that I get the wisdom and strength to impart on my kids what my daddy & mommy and their daddy and mommy taught them. That it is better to leave this world loved & respected than feared. And that the tough guy is the hard working guy. The guy who doesnt take the easy way out. Do you wish for this too?
