Are you a person who naturally has a lot of SLOW TWITCH muscle fibers or FAST TWITCH? We ALL have a mix of both & regardless of your genetic make-up, you can TRAIN your body to develop the fast twitch or the slow twitch & doing so can change the results you get - appearance and performance. Primarily Fast Twitch? Think Sprinters & athletes in sports requiring speed & explosiveness. Typically (not always) they have shorter muscles & tend to build muscle more easily. Primarily Slow Twitch? Think long distance runners & athletes in sports requiring great muscle endurance. Typically they have longer-looking muscles. And if they are *genetically predisposed* to have more slow twitch, until they train to combat that, they have a harder time putting on muscle but they have great endurance. To have your training approach affect your appearance, you HAVE TO factor in nutrition too though. You can train like a marathon runner but look like you have bulky muscles if your nutrition is off and youre therefore maintaining a layer of fat over your muscles. But this is why its SO important that you vary your workouts and find what COMBO of workouts your body responds to the best! And even if you find your soulmate workout, you have to continue to mix things up, even if its just minor changes with # of reps, # of sets, duration, ..or start a NEW program.. avoid a plateau or burn out :)
