Are you considering our winter program at USA Training in Newington? The clinics will be managed by Dover baseball board members and coaches; however USA staff will be assisting during some sessions and the rotating clinics we will offer. Following is the bio of Dennis Torres, a USA Training staff, who has expressed interest in being the instructor to work with our group this winter. He is a former UMass Amherst and Maverick player, currently playing in the Baltimore Orioles organization. Dennis Torres walked onto the University of Massachusetts, Amherst baseball team his sophomore year. He graduated from the Isenberg School of Management as an Accounting major with a 3.45 GPA. As a sophomore, played in 12 games and started in 8 ... Posted a 7.04 ERA in 46.0 innings pitched ... Walked 21 and struck out 31 ... Against Dayton (4/9) struck out five in 5.2 innings pitched ... Pitched six innings giving up four hits, no runs, while striking out six in the shutout win at Hartford (3/31) ... Was the winning pitcher vs. UMBC (3/20) pitching five innings giving up two hits and striking out two ... Was the starting pitcher vs. Navy (3/14) striking out four ... At Sam Houston State (3/5) pitched four innings striking out four. In the summer of 2011 Dennis played for the Seacoast Mavericks in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. He pitched in 7 games and started 6 compiling an ERA of 3.15 over 40 innings of work. He was able to strike out 39 batters while only walking 20. His best performance of the summer came against Marthas Vineyard (7/23) where he went the distance, striking out 6 and only allowing 2 runs. As a junior, played and started in 12 games compiling a record of 4-4 with an ERA of 3.34, 54 strikeouts and 22 walks in 89.0 innings pitched ... Threw a complete game vs. George Washington (5/17) and struck out a season-high eight batters while only giving up three earned runs ... Fanned four and gave up one earned run in 6.2 innings pitched vs. Richmond (5/4) ... Pitched a solid 8.0 innings, striking out four and giving up zero walks vs. Temple (4/27) ... Earned a win in 8.0 innings pitched while accumulating six strikeouts and giving up zero earned runs vs. Albany (3/31) ... At Central Florida (3/10), only gave up one earned run and struck out four in his season debut. Drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft in the 28th round with the 852nd overall pick. Dennis was assigned to play for the Orioles rookie affiliate in the Gulf Coast League where he managed to only pitch 2.1 innings, striking out 2 and allowing 2 hits before his season was cut short due to injury. The following season, 2013, Dennis began the season rehabbing from a partial tear in his ulnar collateral ligament. After a short rehab stint he was assigned to the Orioles A-ball affiliate in the South Atlantic League, the Delmarva Shorebirds. Out of the bullpen he managed to compile a 3.22 ERA in 44.2 innings of work over 25 appearances for the Shorebirds. Dennis managed to strike out 37 batters while walking 28 …Threw 2 scoreless innings, striking out 2 against Kannapolis (7/18). Against Savannah (7/22) pitched 3 scoreless innings, striking out 3 …Struck out game-high 4 batters against West Virginia (7/29). …Ended the season tossing 3 scoreless innings against Kannapolis (8/29).
