Life has a way of leaving a mark. 2 years ago I lost my Dad to cancer out of the blue. From diagnosis to passing was 5 weeks. He was 78 and a financial planner who never retired. He didnt want to as he enjoyed working. He came from an Irish family of 6. His Dad, my Grandfather was Lt of Detectives and Chief of Police in Philadelphia and arrested Al Capone on tax evasion putting him away in Eastern State Penitentiary. My Grandfather went on to start Villanova University Campus Security. My Dad enjoyed life, giving back, was president of Ambler Rotary in PA and was on the Board at his country club. He also was on the Board at LaSalle University in Philadelphia where he attended and was in the U.S. Army as an Officer after ROTC. He raised 8 children in a blended family. He lost my birth mom, his first wife at age 36. Left with myself at age 3, my 2 brothers and sister. He remarried my step Mom who was also widowed young and had 2 children. They together had 2 more... my younger sisters. Finally having 4 boys and 4 girls. He had 19 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. His love of life, people and family was apparent. He also was instrumental in working with Wordsworth Interact which is for children with varying mental, physical, emotional and family issues. He also loved going to car shows and put his first one together through Rotary before he passed. He never had a Corvette, but saw and heard mine. He taught me to always take care of your cars and had many types. Mostly Cadillacs. My oldest brother has a 3 year old Shelby Mustang. My Dad 2 days before he passed said to me that he will be in heaven washing his car with my brother who passed suddenly 3 years ago. I said what kind of car? He replied a Corvette. I looked at my oldest brother who has the Shelby and just smiled. Every time I get into mine I think of him and that moment. I will be contacting Wordsworth Interact in Ft Washington, PA about putting an annual charity car show together in his memory where all proceeds will go to help the children and their programs. I think he will be smiling down. Truly miss my Dad.
