Are you dissatisfied with your appearance in that unattractive, - TopicsExpress

Are you dissatisfied with your appearance in that unattractive, grainy profile photo? Don’t worry: the photographers at Imāgō Artistry can give you some simple advice to refine your personal pictures and prevent any more anxiety over someone (yourself included) posting a regrettably unflattering image of you on the Internet. Although the basics of excellent #portraitphotography start with you, you should not be the photographer of your own picture unless you have the proper equipment. For instance, “selfies” result in terrible pictures and are absolutely unacceptable if you want a decent photograph. The perspective is always terrible and the subject is usually contorted in some strange, unnatural position; just have a friend take the photo for you. (Hey, don’t shoot the messenger—if you really need to take a self-portrait with your mobile phone camera, then at least follow some of the next tips.) Before you hear that shutter click, examine your posture; for an optimal photo, maintain a natural but straight posture (slouching is unacceptable). Feet should be shoulder width apart. If applicable, you can also lean against a wall and rest one foot against it, or stand on a small step or object to create interesting contours. Hands should be near your side at a natural angle, held with fingers gracefully extended for women and curled lightly for men. Alternately, men can tuck their thumbs into their front pockets. Additionally, standing at a slight angle from the perspective of the camera (a ten-degree angle is good) is usually superior to facing directly toward it—staring straight at the camera gives your body and face an abnormally flat and wide appearance. Smiling is often appropriate, but not necessary. Also, keeping your head up can prevent an unsightly double chin. However, you must always maintain a natural, relaxed position and facial expression; an artificial, rigid posture or smile usually detracts from an image. Following these fundamentals should improve your photographs greatly, regardless of what camera you are using.
