Are you going home or Albay-bound for the Holy Week? 1. Tonight is a big night at Puro - Get Soaked at 4500 Happy Land. 2. There will still be live entertainment at Daragang Magayon Beer Plaza. Crowds are growing with each new homecomer and new domestic tourist. Foreign tourists are also learning to make it one of the summer attractions of Albay. 3. Albay has already won the war on good food amongst all destinations. Why? Because unlike Cebu or Manila, it offers the tourists good native food and unique and cohesive culinaria - silk, pili, cocomilk (gate), pinangat For dining, check out the following: a. Ysabelles (the best fusion Bicol Express) b. Balay Cena Una c. Small Talk Cafe d. Al-vis also has an interesting Spanish menu There is a new one called South Diner and it caters to domestic tourists because it offers steak which is why we do not recommend it to foreign tourists unless they ask for a faste back home. 4. Breakfast at The Oriental with a fresh view of Mayon Volcano is a must during your entire stay. 5. The best thing for lunch is still Alamos at Pigcale for the home-made cocido en coco and sea food dishes and of course the pink and light bagoong sauce. 6. For merienda, just order Uncle Tons Pizza, the best outside of Manila in island Luzon. 7. For the budget-conscious, buffet are a aplenty but two stand out - Airport and Waways. And there is that very special buffet every Sunday lunch at Balay Cena Una. 8. For halo-halo, DJC in Tiwi or in Gaisano is still the best for many. But for me, Achas in Polangui is still my childhood refreshment. 9. Dont be a foreigner in your own hometown, visit 1st Colonial for the famous silk ice cream and the whole range of new flavours - my other favourite is tinutungan ice cream. Tinapa rice is still the best at this Daraga place. 10. For puto, take a short stop at Paulog in Ligao City. 11. For Camalig specialties, pinangat is the best at Lets, Dads and Rayvens. 12. For zipline, the most scenic is still in LIgnon Hill but the more sporty look is at Embarcadero and the more unique at the Bonga lava wall. 13. If you are already at Lignon, try the hanging bridge with your companion together. 14. For Mayon ATV, I recommend the Green Lava Valley (1968 Miisi) which can be accessed through Cagasawa where there are two service providers (one in yellow, the other in black/red). 15. The biggest variety of souvenirs is still in Cagsawa. Prices are more reasonable than in Tahao. But, for some reason, the stores dont have Albay themed items. 16. For Albay-only or Albay-themed Tshirts, they can be sourced principally at XS to XX, in 8 colours and in 20 designs commissioned at the Warm Albay stalls: 1 at the Beer Plaza (in front of Apsemo) and 1 stall at the DTI Trade Fair in front of the Capitol. Nice pasalubong at P165 at good quality Tshirts. 17. For pili products, be surprised by the new product lines at the Pili Festival in the Culinaria grounds (in front of the Capitol flagpole). Or, just drop by Locsin Pili Nut, Albay Pili Nuts, Rhapsody (Daraga), Rains (Camalig) or Moratos Pili Nuts (Guinobatan). 18. For abaca crafts, there are aplenty exciting products in the DTI Trade Fair. There is also a showcase of abaca furniture and furnishings in the Capitol Lobby. 19. For paintings, you can check whatever I missed to buy at the Albay Capitol Atrium Art Gallery where there is still an ongoing art exhibit until April 30. 20. For night out, there is 21st Amendment - very Fort-like in ambience but also in price. 21. For Guinobatan longganisa, my favourite is Padres, Ravagos and Don Juans. 22. For swimming pool / resort springs, the best is Oh La La in Guinobatan. There is also Dos Montes (Malilipot), Patio de San Jose (Malilipot), Hacienda (Guinobatan), Spring Zone (Bonga, Bacacay), Burcels (Tabaco), Amater (Malinao), Agua (Malinao), Tiwi Spring Resorts. For me, I learned swimming and still like to spend my excursion in Dannys. Or you can enjoy the Infinity Pool of The Oriental. 23. The most solemn procession is in Polangui... where thousands of faithful followers of Sto. Entierro still wear white, walk barefoot for the entire stretch while women in black robes says pull the carriage which is totally white and shines like a solitary star seen from a far. The line behind Sto. Entierro is like 2/3 of the entire procession. 24. My Holy Week is not complete without a paying Nuestra Señora de Salvacion a visit at her home in Joroan. 25. My Visita Iglesia usually starts with St. Peters and Paul of Polangui (adoration chapel) then proceeds to churches with colonial artefacts 1 San Miguel Oas, 2 San Juan Camalig, 3. Porteria of Daraga, 4. Cathedral, 5. Sto. Domingo, 6. Sta Rosa de Lima Bacacay, 7. Carmel in Malilipot, 8. Sts. Joaquim and Anne in Malinao, 9. St. Lawrence the Martyr in Tiwi.
