Are you shopping online for Christmas presents? This festive - TopicsExpress

Are you shopping online for Christmas presents? This festive season, scammers will be shopping too – for victims. Beware of fake websites with offers on popular items at dirt-cheap prices. These sites can be easily mistaken for legitimate online retailers. They may even use ‘.au’ domain name or a fake ABN. Such sites probably only offer you money order or wire transfer as methods of payment, rather than secure methods. Don’t purchase from sites that don’t provide safe forms of payment, such as PayPal. Chances are you’ll never receive your order. Remember: - If you come across a website that sounds too good to be true, it probably is. - If a shopping site only offers you to pay by money order or wire transfer, steer clear - it’s rare to recover money sent this way. Only pay via secure payment methods – look for a web address starting with ‘https’ and a closed padlock symbol. - These days, it’s easy for scammers to create a professional looking website or email. Double-check the email or website (URL) address, look for grammatical errors (a tell-tale sign of a scammer!), and if you have any doubts, don’t do anything such as respond, click on an attachment, or purchase something – no matter how good the offer is. - Do some research into a website before you buy from it – see if anyone has reviewed the site online (on a separate site). #scam #scams #christmas #christmasscam
