Are you the people of sunnah or are you the people of innovation? You can not be both, you can not say “I adhere to the sunnah of the prophet, but do u know what, because my family have done this for 500 years, and I THINK its okay, ill make it into a new act of ibada” The two are contradicting truths, you either follow what the prophet SWS did, him completing the message. OR you allow yourself to create new things in deen. Imaam Malik was once asked whether one was safe to follow a ruling related to him by reliable narrators who heard it from companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him). he replied, No, by Allah, not unless it is correct: the truth is only one. Can two opposing opinions be simultaneously correct? The opinion which is correct can be only one” [ Jami Byan al-Ilm ] Inform me if I am incorrect. Discuss with me, politely with evidence if you have some. but do not tell me that the prophet SWS said whoever creates a good innovation and people follow it, he will be rewarded, and whoever creates a bad innovation and people follow it he will be punished. The context of the hadieth speaks of revival of forgotten aspects of deen, the specific context was one person who brought forth charity in a time of need and others followed him. This is of the things that is clear cut. Not something you need a mujadid to advise you. Be sincere and use your rational sense in simple and clear matters. Don’t EVER rely on someone you need to make a monthly payment to get advice from.
