Aregbesola’s O’REAP a rip off — Omisore The PDP candidate Senator Iyiola Omisore has flayed the Osun Rural Enterprise and Agriculture Programme, O-REAP of the incumbent governor as a fraud saying the estimated N4 billion spent on agriculture cannot be accounted for. Senator Iyiola Omisore Speaking through his campaign spokesman Prince Diran Odeyemi, he maintained that though the programme on the surface is portrayed as beneficial to farmers, Omisore maintained that beneath what was seen is high level fraud perpetrated by the programme’s officials. “The case of Osun State cannot be different as it is predominantly an agrarian economy where more than 80 percent of the population reside in the rural areas and more than 70 percent of this rural population are basically into agriculture and agro- allied enterprises. Therefore, it is an understatement to say that agriculture is very important and as such, any serious government should not handle it with levity. “From our investigation, the leadership of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has used the agricultural development agenda tagged Osun Rural Enterprise and AgricultureProgramme (OREAP) to fraudulently enrich themselves to the detriment of the well-being of the resource –poor farmers of the State. “Despite about Four Billion Naira (N4 Billion) that this government claimed it has spent on agriculture in the last three and half years, there is still nothing commensurate on ground. According to our finding, the OREAP is an agenda in the right direction but being implemented by a group of persons that are bereft of integrity.” “The quantum of whatever this government has done is not commensurate to what they have budgeted for as well as the financial supports to agricultural development the State received from development partners, donors and international agencies. “For example, we heard that the recent loan of Ninety-Seven Million Dollars ($97 Million) received by the government of Rauf Aregbesola under the Federal Government’s Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP). How much of this money has been spent? How many real rural roads and allied infrastructures have been provided with the money and where are they? We challenge Ogbeni Aregbesola to come out with the breakdown of how the OREAP fund was expended if he has nothing to hide.
