Arguing with stupid this morning, and constantly seeing comments about the militarization of the police, even from people who know me and whom I consider friends, got me to thinking (that should be enough to scare anyone). I think society has lost sight of something that we in law enforcement know and take for granted as a given, and that is: Law Enforcement (as an entity) is not here to fight a fair fight; our job is to win the fight! Our purpose is to enforce the laws and to protect the public, and in order to do that, safely, for all involved, we have to be one step up the scale of force from those we are tasked with arresting/combating. I do not want to live in a world where the cops are forced to fight fair, and meet force only with the same level of force. If you do, you have clearly never been in a fight with a dirtbag or a convict.
