Arguments verging on sophistry. Mere rhetorics. Spurious - TopicsExpress

Arguments verging on sophistry. Mere rhetorics. Spurious assertions. Specious, laughable and untenable reasons why we are poor as a country. Of course the facticity of the Climate Change phenomenon and its impact on our socio-economic lives cannot be over-emphasized and I do not in any way wish to reinvent the wheel of its discussion herein. But it is my contention that the arguments by Ms. Barbara Serwaa Asamoah are completely flawed. Why? Is climate change and the attendant effects limited to our jurisdiction? Are we the only victims of the climate change phenomenon? Certainly not! As of today, we are a nation that shamelessly imports mundane commodities such as onions, tomatoes etc from our neighbours; nations that have equally suffered the brunt of climate change. A helpless and pitiable nation we have become. On the contrary, our poverty stems from the fact that we have mismanaged our economy in recent times; unmitigated corrupt practices, the indiscipline in sticking to fiscal and monetary targets, resulting in huge budget deficits, a new found specialty in the payment of questionable and fraudulent judgment debts, huge expenditure that pays for the obnoxious salaries and allowances of a bloated and otiose government machinery; the imposition of zany taxes on the citizenry and lastly the lack of effective and sound government policies. To these I should add the phenomenon of appointing square pegs to fix round holes in government!! Appointees who are concerned about being called as Honourable than bringing real change to the masses! These are the REAL reasons for our poverty and despondency! The Deputy Minister say wetin? She did not expect us to fall for that like we were some gullible neanderthals; did she?
